Coach finance can look complex, but the process is straightforward once you know the steps. Here's how it works for ABN-holding operators when you apply through Overdrive and our panel of 80+ lenders.
How does coach finance work?
Instead of paying for a coach outright, your business borrows against the vehicle and repays over an agreed term. The coach itself usually acts as the security, which is why commercial facilities can be more accessible than an unsecured loan. Common structures include a chattel mortgage or a lease.
What are the steps to settlement?
You share your ABN, some identification and details of the coach. The broker compares lenders and comes back with indicative terms. Once you choose an option and the lender assesses the application, documents are signed and the funds settle so you can take delivery. Established operators may move through this with limited paperwork.
How do you choose a loan structure?
Term length, deposit and any balloon or residual all shape your repayments. A longer balloon lowers monthly costs but leaves a lump sum at the end. The right balance depends on your cash flow and how long you plan to run the coach. GST and depreciation questions are best directed to your accountant or registered tax adviser.
