One of the most common questions we hear is how long an ABN needs to be registered before a business can finance a car. The honest answer is that it varies by lender, and a short ABN history does not automatically rule you out. Here is what tends to matter.
How long must your ABN be active?
Some lenders prefer to see an ABN active for 12 to 24 months, others will consider applicants with an ABN registered for just a few months. Because Overdrive compares a wide panel of lenders, a newer ABN is often still workable rather than an automatic decline.
What helps a shorter ABN history?
GST registration, a clean personal credit file, evidence of income and sometimes property ownership can all strengthen an application where the ABN is relatively new. Lower-documentation options may also be available for eligible applicants who cannot yet provide full financials.
How do you match the right lender?
The key is applying to a lender whose criteria fit your ABN age and profile, rather than applying broadly and collecting knock-backs. Simon Kendrick handles that matching for you across the panel, subject to each lender's criteria.
Not sure whether your ABN is old enough yet? Ask Overdrive for an obligation-free quote. It is a soft check that won't affect your credit score, and you will get a clear read on your options.
